Mae B. Real Estate Development (Mae B. RED) was founded to combat the sameness that characterizes the built environments of minority and under-resourced communities - an uninspired sameness that says nothing new and exciting is happening here, nor will it happen here. But all neighborhoods are dynamic, no matter their economic or social context and the built environment should reflect the aspirations and dignity of their residents. A focus on people-centered design, respect for community's many forms and care for the planet that sustains us can provide each of us with a greater sense of place and belonging.
The company launched the GREEN+ Initiative in 2024 in collaboration with Human Systems & Strategy Design (HSSD). GREEN+ is a demonstration project that brings together architects, builders, funders and real estate developers who are committed to using high performance building systems that exceed a municipality's base "green" standards and result in high energy efficiency, sustainability and equity to mitigate the impacts of climate change on communities. Mae B. RED is committed to the use of high performance sustainable building systems in every neighborhood, regardless of income strata, for residential and commercial properties to reduce energy poverty and GHG's. It will partner or collaborate with public, private and not-for-profit entities.
A love for life, learning, creativity and imagination are the prompts Mae B. RED uses to stretch and engage beyond its comfort zone. The company's operational philosophy rest on Four Pillars: Innovation, Sustainability, Community, and Accountability. These pillars will contribute positive returns to residents, stakeholders and investors.
